Many people have no idea the importance of getting your recommended amount of water each day which varies person to person. So often water is substituted with other beverages such as coffee, tea, soft drinks, alcohol, and other sugary drinks that are counterproductive in hydrating your body, and they end up taking water from your body’s reserves. The best way to hydrate is to drink water. Water should be one of the top priorities to an individual’s daily essential elements, next to air. Our bodies are 75% water (the brain is made up of 95% water, blood is 82% and lungs 90%, etc.) along with 2/3 of the earth consisting of water and supporting life itself. Without water, there is no life!!! You cannot expect your body to function the way God created it to function if you don’t do the basic fundamentals to keep it in proper working health. Water is involved in all bodily functions and with your body functioning 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, your body relies tremendously on you to keep fueling it with proper water amounts. The minimum amount of water recommended for an average adult is 8 cups of water per day (64oz). That number goes up from there depending on climate, activity, lifestyle, etc.

Do you struggle with fatigue, achy, and sore muscles, delayed muscle recovery from workouts, headaches, water retention, dry hair, skin, and nails? Do you have digestion problems, weight gain, temperature swings, irritability, shakiness, mood swings, nervousness, kidney stones, bladder and urinary track infections?????……………Have you thought of dehydration as a factor? About 70% of Americans have mild dehydration, which is shocking since we have drinking fountains, vending machines, and water readily available to us in majority of the places our two feet take us. Typically, people wait for a dry mouth as the indication that they are dehydrated, which, in fact, is the last sign. You need to acquire the habit to drink water even when you think you don’t need it, and eventually, your true thirst mechanisms will be reawakened.

Along with the obvious, water is also a wonderful aide in weight loss. It helps aide in metabolism, which is pretty much the process where substances are distributed and used in the cells throughout your body. Everything that goes in your mouth comes out or is stored. In order to keep your body flushing things through, water is key. Water also can help make you feel fuller while eating with a meal, which in turn helps you to consume less. Sometimes people confuse thirst for hunger, so drinking consistently throughout the day can prevent those extra munching times. Water also makes your workouts more effective. When your muscles have all the water they need, they contract more easily, which decreases muscle tears and helps quicken the recovery process. All in all………….Make sure you put water on the top of your New Year’s resolutions! If you don’t like water………….make yourself like it by adding Crystal Light or some other low calorie flavoring that will aide in your quest for refreshment and hydration. God bless!:)

So I recently had a stomach issue that my body, along with antibiotics, has finally overcome (THANK GOD). It really has made me appreciative for a pain-free life!! Dealing with that kind of pain really opened my eyes in a whole new light. A majority of individuals will continue on with their “normal” lifestyle, overlooking their health in general, until one day they are hit with a horrible reality of sickness and/or pain. It isn’t until then that we look back and are truly grateful for what we had. Sometimes awakenings like that are needed in many of our lives. I, for one, am so thankful that my body is now healthy and whole again. I now spend extra moments during my days to thank God that I have what I have and that I may do everything as though it is truly a gift.

Life is a gift, and from the day we were born, our days began to decrease. Time is one thing we can never get back, and it is crucial that we all grab a hold of the reality of the gift of every moment. I don’t want to let the time go by and down the road wish I had done things differently. Many of us wait until detrimental situations arise in our lives to finally make a change, but we need to be people that have the mentality of preventing problems and circumstances. It isn’t luck or bad luck that we are where we are today. We’ve made the choices to get here, and ultimately, we will determine where we are heading. Just look around at the things you have been blessed with instead of what you don’t have!!! It is all about changing the way you think of things, and that change will change your entire life! Then again, what each of us has may be what someone would give anything for!!

I wanted to just encourage everyone to look at his/her health as a top priority. Many things in life can be prevented, so let’s put the effort into doing it now instead of then or until then. That “until then” might be your biggest fear, and all along you had the power to steer clear of it!!! BEWARE of the should ofs, would ofs, and could ofs!!! God bless and have a wonderful holiday!!!

Recently, I was introduced to active stretching to perform before my workouts. I found out how off my balance is and how weak my hips and foot flexors are. What is active stretching? Active stretching is holding certain positions with the strength of your agonist (engaging/contracting) muscles without assistance. Active stretching increases flexibility, strengthens, and warms up the muscles targeted. For example, going into a side lunge and holding it there for a second or two and then repeating for a desired number of repetitions is active stretching. My agonist muscles get fatigued quite fast. I’m trying to build up to where I have complete control of the position while holding the proper form. I find that making focal points are very helpful. I’m also doing it barefoot so I can work out my feet. A lot of my instability comes from the imbalance and weakness of my foot flexors. For demonstrations of active stretching you can check out our Ideal Shape youtube video.

We are all governed by three areas of our lives: mind, body and spirit. All three areas play major roles to complete health and wholeness. One of the keys to keeping every area functioning in unison is balance. We are people of extreme. We either do too much of something or not enough, one spectrum or the other. A lack of balance is usually due to a lack of discipline and organization. Many people tend to make excuses for why they are the way that they are, but in all reality……we are the ones who make the ultimate decisions in our everydays.

You have control over your life. You decide what you eat, how much, or when you workout, how much sleep you get, etc. Yes, we all have priorities in life, but no one has the excuse that he/she is too busy, for you are the one that makes your own schedule. There are things that we all do that we will find the time to fit in, regardless of a hectic schedule. If you don’t make your health a priority, and you put other things before it that require a healthy and alert body such as your job (money), family, and/or relationships………..your health will begin to diminish and in turn your job, earnings, relationships, and overall way of life will begin to suffer. Make sure you prioritize your life wisely and place emphasis on the things that will add to the abundance, joy, and longevity of your life.

Your health is your wealth! Don’t wish you had taken better care of it then. Start today! It is never too late to begin a healthier way of life. Start with simple changes and make those changes become habits. They say it takes about 21 days to make a habit as well as to break one. Let today be the day to a healthier, happier you! Little steps over time produce distance……..it is one step at a time, one day at a time, and in due season, you will reap a blessing for all the work you put into it! You get out of something what you put into it! Hard work pays off! Results require action!! Take ACTION today and don’t let the pressures of this world weigh you down!!!!
