Performance Training

Training for me is a part of my everyday life.  Everything plays a part; diet, sleep, hydration, stretching, weight training, workouts, and mental frame of mind.  One of the key elements for me in my training is being a self-motivator.  I pep talk and encourage myself to keep pressing on toward my goals and dreams.  If you want something you will do everything in your power to get there.  Training requires time, organization, energy, and mental power.  One thing I carry with me to keep me pumped up is my ipod; it’s my training partner and a great one at that!!!  It gets me in the “zone.” When you are in that zone, the time tends to fly by, and your mind takes you to another place.  The best workouts I have are when I’m running or biking and visualizing myself in the race……I see my competitors, hear the crowds, the announcers, and best of all, glimpse the finish line.  If you can’t visualize yourself where you want to be or do, it will be impossible for you to get there.

As far as what I do for training……..it varies.  Year-round, I’m consistent with weight training and diet.  I keep up my cardio, but the amount of miles decreases or increases depending on what I’m training for.  Currently, I am training for my Ironman, and I’m in the base building stage.  I’m building up my mileage and getting my endurance to a point where I can go for what it seems like……..forever!
